The breast-root width changes non-linearly with cup volume. The strap angle changes. The weight vector changes. When you scale linearly, you end up with:
Wires that sit on breast tissue rather than on the rib cage Straps that pull forward (digging) instead of down-and-back Cup seams that don’t align with the natural breast apex Bands that don’t provide enough support because they weren’t re-tensioned for heavier cups What a properly graded block looks like # A plus-size bra factory should have separate blocks for:
B–D cup (the “standard” block) DD–G cup (re-engineered wire geometry, different strap anchor) H–K cup (different cup construction, typically 4-part, with reinforced underband) You can tell within 30 seconds if a factory has these by asking to see their pattern library. If they show you one block with size variations, walk away.
Three questions to ask every factory # “Show me the wire geometry for a 38H vs a 34B.” The wires should be visibly different in width, depth, and anchor position. “What’s the cup construction above a G-cup?” If the answer is “2-part” or “molded,” it’s the B-cup construction scaled up. Above a G, you want 3- or 4-part seamed cups. “Can I see a fit sample on a DD-cup model vs a 2XL-sized DD?” (Same cup, different bands.) This reveals whether grading accounts for torso circumference independently of cup volume. What this looks like at our factory # We grade plus sizes from dedicated blocks — separate pattern files, separate fit models, separate underwire inventory. Every size above a DD is fit-tested on a real wearer in that size, not just a dress form.
It’s slower and more expensive than the shortcut. It’s also why our plus-size bras come back with reorder rates above 60%.
Want to see our grading workbook? It is not a full sustainability certification; it is a skin-safety certification.
How to verify: ask for the certificate number. Then search it directly on oeko-tex.com/en/label-check. If it doesn’t come up, the claim is false.
Gotcha: “OEKO-TEX fabric” only means the fabric is certified. Working conditions, wages, hours, safety, no child labor, no forced labor. It’s an amfori-run program widely accepted across EU retail.
How to verify: BSCI audits don’t have public certificates, but the factory can share its audit report (often a PDF dated within the last 2 years). Do you accept MOQ of 50 pieces?”
The honest answer is: no, and neither does any real factory. What’s being marketed as low-MOQ is usually something else entirely. Here’s the math.
The actual cost breakdown on a 50-pc vs 300-pc run # A bra has roughly 30–50 components: fabric, lining, foam, wire, hooks, straps, rings, sliders, labels, care tags, elastic, etc. Every supplier has an MOQ per component — typically 500m for fabric, 10kg for elastic, 1000 pcs for hardware.
Below 300 pcs per SKU:
Fabric waste eats 40%+ of your unit cost You pay full-run tooling (cutting dies, pattern setup) across tiny volume Workers physically slow down on small runs (no rhythm) QC overhead is the same whether you inspect 50 or 5,000 So a 50-pc order might physically be possible, but the FOB price won’t look like wholesale anymore — it’ll look more like boutique atelier pricing ($18–$25/pc for a bra that would FOB at $6 in a 300-pc run).
What “MOQ 50” usually actually means # When a factory or trading company offers MOQ 50, it’s almost always one of three things:
They’re a trading company, not a factory, and they’re combining your 50 pcs with someone else’s 250 pcs. Fine in principle, but you lose all visibility into who actually made your product and what fabric it really was. They’re using deadstock fabric — whatever was left over from a bigger client’s run. Fine for a one-off capsule, but you can’t reorder the same SKU. They’re quoting aspirational pricing and will hit you with add-on fees (pattern fee, sampling fee, tooling fee, rush fee) that bring the effective unit cost back to boutique levels. Why our minimum is 300 # Three hundred pieces per SKU per color is where honest wholesale pricing becomes possible:
We can buy fabric at the mill’s MOQ without overage Cutting and grading tooling costs amortize properly Inline QC can sample at statistically valid rates Workers get into production rhythm Below 300, we’re not doing you a favor — we’re either losing money (and we won’t) or quietly inflating the price.
What to do if you genuinely need <300 # Buy our existing SKUs with your label. No pattern cost, no tooling cost. 300-pc minimum still applies, but you can split it across 2–3 colors. Combine styles — 3 styles × 100 pcs can sometimes work if they share fabric and trim. Use a capsule strategy — validate one style in a 300-pc run, measure sell-through, then expand. If you tell us your brand stage and volume projection, we’ll be honest about whether we’re the right factory. Each color requires its own fabric dye-lot.
Do you have a higher MOQ for custom-developed styles? # Same 300-pc minimum, but you’ll pay a one-time development/sampling fee (typically $200–$600) which is usually credited against your first bulk order.
Lead times # How long is sampling? # 7–10 business days for a standard sample round. We do not copy designs that are under active IP protection of third parties.
Can I use my own fabric? # Yes, with a few conditions: minimum 500m of fabric on hand, arriving at our factory at least 10 days before production starts, and pre-tested for shrinkage/colorfastness. Cutting inspection # Ply-stack height verified against pattern tolerance Notch accuracy checked across the stack Random pick-sampling on the marker (3 pieces per 100) Color-continuity verified across rolls for large runs 3. Inline QC (during sewing) # This is where most factories skip. We don’t.
25% inline check — first 25% of the run inspected for construction defects. Final inspection # Standard: AQL 2.5 (general) / AQL 1.5 (critical defects) Sampling plan: ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 (Level II)
Every piece is visually inspected under standardized lighting.
